I’ve known that my wife has had a handful of 401k accounts from previous jobs, that she has maintained separately for a while. They are all in different brokerages. We were in discussion last night about her setting up her 401k with her new employer, and she asked me if she should merge them together or leave them seperate.

I always assumed that they should be merged together for simplicity, but wasn’t sure if there was any reason against merging them. Each account holds between 50-100k. Any arguments against merging them? Or suggestions about the best time to merge them?
