Hello! I’m a 17-year-old high school student, I just got added to my mom’s Amex platinum card as an authorized user. I think I’m at a point in life where I should start learning about financial stuff, so I asked her to provide me an additional card. I was wondering if that builds up my own credit pretty fast?

My goal is to get either Chase freedom unlimited or flex card when I’m 18 or 19 as my first card (if that is possible?) All my knowledge on a credit card is based on youtube and internet website without any previous experience so I’ll need some help 😅

My parents are immigrants as well as myself and I tried to get some bits of advice from them but they don’t know much about credit either.

I also get around $800 for my monthly allowance, and I don’t use all of my money so any suggestion on using it towards something that will help me later in life would be very much appreciated!

In conclusion, 1. On estimate, what credit score will I be able to achieve as just being an authorized user for a year with primary account holder paying full payment every month.

  1. Is it possible to get approved for freedom unlimited or freedom flex as a student with no credit history besides being an authorized user and have no income from a job? If you guys don’t recommend those cards for me, can I know why and provide other suggestions? I’m just trying to learn 😁

Thank you everyone!
